Demi & Ashton: On Again?

Demi Moore is reportedly very angry about the interpretation of some tweets she made on her Twitter page!

Moore claims her status updates were “completely misunderstood” by the mainstream media, causing reports to go around insisting that she is trying to reconcile with her ex, Ashton Kutcher. Moore had decided  to end their short 6 year marriage due to Ashton’s infidelities, and caused hot rumors yesterday when she retweeted to Ashton Kutcher the following message: “When your mind says give up, hope whispers one more try”.

This comes after the two were spotted at a friend’s birthday party embracing emotionally, as Ashton tearfully admitted during a speech at the party that he made mistakes during their marriage. Although Demi has yet to start proceeding on the divorce, she maintains that her tweets were taken out of context. She follwed up the rumors on Twitter, posting “You have to laugh at the media’s need to twist and take tweets out of context so they can create fictitious stories to sell to the public.”

Yet Demi and Ashton aren’t the only couple with questionable contact-Katy Perry has reportedly been receiving contact from recent ex Russell Brand. The comedian contacted Perry in an effort to have himself removed from her upcoming film, “Part Of Me: 3D”. Perry is said to have passed this request on to producers, however was denied. A source close to the couple claims Perry “persuaded” Brand to be in the flick, and now that they are no longer together she is in no way responsible for taking him out.

Justing Bieber: Battery Charges?

Detectives from the Malibu-lost hills station say they plan to interview Justin Bieber over an alleged incident of battery that took place on Sunday afternoon involving the pop star and a paparazzi cameraman.  According to etonline, Bieber struck the cameraman while he was trying to take pictures of the pop star and his girlfriend, Selena Gomez.  The unnamed paparazzi called 911 after the altercation took place and Bieber and Gomez left the scene before police arrived. The cameraman was taken to the hospital by the Los Angeles County fire department after he complained of being in pain and said he wanted the pop icon charged with misdemeanor battery.

While law enforcement officials say Bieber is not technically a suspect in the case, he is a person of interest.  The detectives told etonline they have “interviewed the alleged victim, will interview witnesses and are planning to interview Mr. Bieber.” Police say they also wish to speak with Selena Gomez, who they consider to be a key witness in the ongoing investigation.  E! Online reported that Gomez tweeted on Sunday thanking her fans for their loyalty but offered no further insight into the incident. Instead she wrote, “I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day/Weekend, had some [good] BBQ this weekend.”

Police might have a hard time getting Bieber to come into the station, at least for a while.  The pop star has left the country to promote his new album and perform a series of free concerts.  On Monday, Bieber put up his travel itinerary on Facebook: Oslo, Paris, Milan, Verona, Madrid, London, Cologne, Berlin, Mexico City, NYC and Toronto. He is not scheduled to be back in his hometown until June 17th and since he is not an official suspect in the case, the police will not ask him to cancel his tour.  It appears that the police will simply have to wait until the star returns to California before they can interview him.

Britney Spears’ X-Factor Debut

It was an interesting first day in Austin, TX for newly appointed X-Factor judge, Britney Spears!

Looking chic & sexy in a hot pink mini dress with a sheer v-neck drop, Spears managed to get herself trending by the time auditions had wrapped-and not necessarily in a good way. After hearing a terrible rendition of the pop princesses’ own “Hold It Against Me”,  30-year-old Spears walked off the judging stage..however, she claims it was not a dramatic exit. “#Britneywalksoff??? LOL I was just taking a little break people. I am having the BEST time,” Spears tweeted after noticing her water break had been taken out of context. Four contestants were irritated that due to her brief step out, they were not able to perform in front of the pop idol and could only be critiqued by co-judges Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid and Demi Lovato. Upon her return, the singer was booed after praising a contestant who the crowd felt could not carry a tune.


Despite the minor drama, it did appear that Spears enjoyed her first day. After being spotted at the Fox UpFront Presentation last week with bleeding fingernails she’d bitten due to “nerves”, the pop star and mother seemed thrilled to be finally working on the X-Factor set and proved herself as an honest judge: sweet as the southern belle can be, it is reported that she told one contestant: “I feel like you need a new teacher to teach you how to sing.” Ouch, Brit!

The Great Gatsby Trailer Released

The wait is finally over! Fans of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 novel, The Great Gatsby, can now watch the trailer for Baz Luhrman’s cinematic interpretation; scheduled to be released this Christmas. Luhrman’s trailer has given us an extra-taste of what is one of the most anticipated movies of the year.

Based on the trailer, Luhrman’s interpretation strays far from Robert Redford and Mia Farrow’s 1974 interpretation of Gatsby. While the 1974 film is pretty much what one would expect in a cinematic interpretation of the book, Luhrman’s adaptation has taken a different route from the expected. In typical Baz Luhrman fashion, the director brings present day culture to a historic setting; his cinematic aesthetic is based on reimagining the past through the modern.

In Moulin Rouge he brought an eccentricity to the fashion of early 20thth century Paris, while in his interpretation of Romeo and Juliet, Luhrman brought a new look to Shakespeare by turning the feud between the Capulets and Montagues into Los Angeles gang fights. It shouldn’t surprise anyone then, that along with anachronisms from the roaring 20’s, (lavish parties, flappers, and the Charleston), Gatsby’s trailer opens with Kanye West and Jay-Z’s song No Church in the Wild.
Apart from the hip-hop, Luhrman seems to have done his due diligence by capturing the thematic content of the great American novel. In just a short amount of time, Luhrman shows us a world that is intimidating in its grandeur, excess and frivolity of 20’s high society, capturing the essence of one of Gatsby’s most famous lines, “it sounds like money.” At the same time, there is something sinister at the heart of culture and we get the feeling this is a world that is not as carefree as the expensive parties would have everyone believe.

Both Luhrman and the stars of the film seem to have captured Fitzgerald’s words on the silver screen. Daisy Buchannan, (Carey Mulligan) looks elegantly beautiful while Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio), looks, as Daisy would say, “cool,” smoking cigarettes in his Oxford shirts. We also get to see Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire), as the moral, naïve and judgmental narrator; a nervous Midwesterner thrust into the obsessive and mirthful New York culture. Along with the big name actors, the trailer features new faces like Elizabeth Debicki, who plays Jordan Baker, and Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan playing Meyer Wolfsheim.
From this first sneak peak, its clear that most literature purists won’t approve of the Luhrman interpretation. High school students will certainly try to get out of reading the book by watching the movie. But even if you like the book that shouldn’t stop you from enjoying Luhrman’s movie, it looks like a fun reimagining of a modern classic.

Paris Hilton’s DJ Debut!

Since age 15, Paris Hilton has been a regular in the nightclub scene, and much of her fame today has to do with her appearances at the different hot spots in cities like Vegas, New York, and California. Over the years, she has shown us her many different talents; ranging from singing, acting, fashion, marketing, and design. Now she is going to show us her new disk jockey skills at the Pop Music Festival in São Paulo, Brazil on June 23rd. The festival’s lineup includes the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Lopez, Cobra Starship, and Michel Teló. It will take place at the Anhembi Arena, which seats a capacity of 30,000 people.

Never backing away from the spotlight, Paris will once again prove herself as capable, apt, and unphasable as she mixes music in front of a massive crowd. She is scheduled to perform multiple tracks and looks to delight her large audience in Brazil.

Giuliana and Bill..Play Cupid?

Fans of shows like The Bachelor and Millionaire Matchmaker should be getting excited right about now: NBC has announced that Giuliana and Bill Rancic will be hosting the new dating show, “Ready for Love”.

Everyone seems to think the Rancics are a perfect choice to host, since describing them as a “power couple” would be putting it lightly. In the past, Giuliana, an anchor for E! News, has hosted the Miss America pageant and conducted red carpet interviews alongside Ryan Seacrest while Bill, an entrepreneur, starred in the 2004 season of The Apprentice. The couple also has their own show on the E! Network: Giuliana & Bill.

While the opportunity to host NBC’s new reality show is certainly exciting, the couple has already had a particularly eventful year. In early April, the Rancics appeared on MSNBC’s Today show to talk about Giuliana’s struggle with breast cancer. The E! News anchor said she was on the quick track to recovery, “I mean its been a tough journey…but after further research and testing, as of now, I won’t be needing chemotherapy, which is fantastic news.” Giuliana was diagnosed with cancer in 2011, which for a long time put the couple’s dreams of starting a family on hold. However at the end of April the Rancics announced that they were expecting a baby, which is due in late summer. Who better to host a show about finding love than a powerhouse couple that understands its struggles?

“Ready for Love” will feature three eligible bachelors who will be coached and guided by three world-renowned matchmakers. No news yet on who the matchmakers will be, however E! Online has reported the host of Tough Love, Steve Ward, has been considered for one of the spots and there’s a rumor that Amber Kelleher may join the show.

As for “Ready for Love”‘s bachelors, realitytvworld.com reported the show’s producers hand-selected three men that any woman would be lucky to land!

Ben Patton is an international financier from Dallas, TX. Along with his philanthropic work for orphanages in Uganda, Patton has had adventures all over the world; including running with the bulls in Pamplona and white water rafting down the Nile.

Ernesto Arguello is an entrepreneur and engineer from Miami Fl, who works to create functional and safe housing in developing nations, including his homeland of Nicaragua.

People may recognize Tim Lopez from the band Plain White T’s. Lopez describes himself as a “hopeless romantic” and stresses his loyalty to his band and family. But don’t take my word for it, anyone can go on the show’s NBC website to read their profiles, which include bios, videos, and photos.

Besides being handsome and successful, all three share a desire to find true love and a relationship that will last. They’re ready for the real deal and they hope the matchmakers will deliver.

I should also mention that the show is being produced by Desperate Housewives star, Eva Longoria. Longoria has said she is excited to be part of the innovative new dating program, but it’s NBC’s executive Paul Telegdy was quoted as saying, “we are thrilled to have Eva leading the charge creatively.” It should be interesting to see if Longoria will make an appearance or if she will choose to take a behind-the-scenes role when the show airs in winter.

Breaking Into The Acting Business

  Many people of all ages make the journey to California in the hopes of making it big as an actor or actress.
Here in Boston, most of us prefer the big-fish-in-a-small-pond approach, networking together on NE Actor as a circuit working the castings.

Everyone starts out on the high enthusiasm, low realism spectrum. As time passes on and things are not happening as fast as you would like, along with other practicality and necessities piling up (oh, you wish it was just dirty dishes and laundry!), both ends of the spectrum start to make their slow convergence to the middle. In many cases this leans to the opposite end, leaving one with unpaid bills and very little hope as a struggling server. Yet most of us a smart enough to have a backup plan; a college degree or career path started that we may always fall back on (just in case, although we hope we never need them).

 You often hear advice on getting into acting as involving things like set clear goals, network, find an agent, practice acting, etc. While all of that is true, you still have thousands of people doing the same thing.

 Anthony’s biggest advice is to ask other people, “what do you see when you look at me” and many a time, the answer will surprise you. You can use that information to pick the character types you want to audition for. Often times, others see us differently than we see ourselves, and it’s hard for us to accept this because we have a picture in our head of exactly who we want to be, and we think about this over and over to the point of actually believing this is who we are. In interviews, when actors are asked what was their favorite movie or favorite character to play as, they almost never respond with the one that was most popular with the audience. There is always a certain role that you will unexpectedly express with such charisma and grace that it will cause someone to take notice! Now you’re saying, “But I don’t wanna be typecast.” My advice is to look for the typecast first, and then prove yourself later. Because, you don’t make movies for you, you make them for your audience.

Emmalyn’s biggest advice is to remember the movie isn’t made for you-often times, actors will take it out on themselves if they don’t land a role. When a director casts a movie, they generally envision a specific person-maybe you’re a brunette and he wanted redhead? If you are confident you have talent, you should be confident if you feel you’ve given a role your best effort whether you land a role or not. Oh, and a second piece of advice? Find an agent. Only the lucky few rise up through extra work!
